2004 MTV Movie Awards
For those who watched the MTV Movie Awards this year, I'm deeply sorry. Not that I had anything to do with it, I just wish they could have warned us that it was going to be a little weak this year. Typically there's a great theme, some great new artists showcasing themselves, loads of sarcasm, and a great intro act. Instead we got a luke-warm intro scene with Lindsay Lohan, who by the way can't dance. The theme this year was strange, and not in a Stanley Kubrik way. There was this dwarf in a evil looking costume that stayed inside the cage-like podium during the ceremony. He/she never blinked the entire night (That really freaked me out). Maybe it was anamatronics? D12 performed.. I mean the showed up. Seriously, it was like one of those junior high talent shows where a bunch of white guys get together and try to rap (Yes, I know that most of the members are not white, just MM). They were all just wondering around on the stage as if they had never rehearsed this act in their entire life. In closing, I would like to point out at least 2 positive things from the night. Jack Black took best comedic performance in School of Rock, sporting a shirt that read "Vote Kerry" and a bushy beard. He also bit the microphone off of the podium (classic). The Yeah Yeah Yeah's performance of "Maps" was outstanding. It was the first time I've ever seen a live performance that felt more like a music video. The camera angles and stage props along with the lighting created a separation from their performance and the awards ceremony. I don't remember seeing the audience during their performance at all. It was a nice performance. If you missed the MTV Movie awards, don't worry they will be re-running it until next year's ceremony.
P.S. The Beastie Boys performed... again. How old are they now?
