Deep Impact Mission

Tonight while you sleep, NASA will be busy blowing up a comet, or at least putting a dent in one. A spacecraft was launched in January this year and is now 83 million miles from us, approaching the comet Temple 1. On July 4th at 12:52 am CST, the Impactor (released from the spacecraft) will collide with the comet creating a large crater while the spacecraft observes it from approximately 300 miles away. More information...

I stepped outside tonight to look up at where Temple 1 is located (although you can't see it with the naked eye) and my mind was instantly blown and this blog entry was invoked.
