Mobile GPS Solution

img_May_10_2005_20_40 We are on the lookout for a PDA GPS solution and all signs are pointing to a bluetooth-enabled device. We are currently testing a Pharos SDIO GPS. We have experienced poor satellite aquisition as well as COM port issues every time we try to access it from our application. It's a great device for casual users, like geocachers or outdoorsmen but for industrial data collection it doesn't cut the mustard.

One device that's on our radar is Trimble's Pathfinder® ProXH. It's rugged design and accuracy are quite appealing, but I'm sure its quite pricey. Engadget pointed me to this device from Taiwanese vendor Kemix, which has not yet been realeased. It has a built-in solar panel that does away with recharging or battery replacement. In theory this would be the best solution for us but in reality it will probably never be released in the U.S.

Re: Mobile GPS Solution

Found this GPS that looks like the Kemix over at Semsons in case you haven't located one. (http://www.semsons.com/soblgpsspofa.html)

There is also a review over at ipaqhq. (http://www.ipaqhq.com/articles/articles/265)
