Remote Controlled Rats

Notice he's on rail????? The concept of remote controlled rats is not new, this article reminded me that it has been done. Apparently scientist have been able to programatically control the rat's ability to sniff out specific chemicals. Oddly enough this technology could relate to my current job. We use RaeSystem's AreaRAE unit to detect chemicals in the environment, they are equiped with electrochemical senors, a GPS, and a wireless transmitter. We deploy them in a 2-mile area and monitor them from a centralized laptop where the data is displayed on a map and stored for later use. I can imagine (humorously) deploying "AreaRATs" on a chemical incident, strap GPS's on their backs and send them out into the community to detect chemicals while we all sit back and watch from a computer screen. How would you calibrate one of these things?

Re: Remote Controlled Rats

An AreaRAT, I love it. Will you be able to upgrade the firmware? That would be cool.

Re: Remote Controlled Rats

I have a weird neighbor. A remote-controlled rat would be beyond splendid. Can you teach it (or control it) to bite? As, I ask that, I need to ask if these are rabies-free or is that an extra add-on feature?

Thanks,
