Ballistic Recovery Systems
This company makes parachutes for airplanes. Not like the ones for people, a much bigger/stronger version for the plane itself. As a last resort in an emergency sitiation you can deploy the chute and float down to safety. Check out the video section for some really cool demonstrations. This would be a must-have if I owned my own plane. Someone has already sued them for device failure. It's obviously just another layer of protection. As a kid, I remember wondering why this technology didn't exist yet. I was surprised when I stumbled across it today.
