All I heard about today on the radio on the way to work, and on the TV when I got home was how Mel Gibson's new film The Passion of The Christ created/promoted anti-Semitism. I think it's just a ploy from his publishers and the media to get people out of their homes and watch this film. First off, it looks like a great film and I will definitely see it. I have no issues with the movie itself, but I am tired of the methods the media and the entertainment industry use to stir up the American public to promote a film. As I was running tonight my mind was racing with all kinds of different ideas about what was wrong with this picture. I came up with a couple of things I would like to try to attack:

  1. Seriously, how many films have been made about the life of Jesus Christ? You have documentaries, dramas, comedies, and cartoons . The majority of these are scripted verbatim from the new testament in some type of translation. My point is this: Why is anti-Semitism being brought up now? I have never heard this argument before today.

  2. Shifting gears a little... Even if the film indirectly promotes anti-Semitism, hasn't several films in the past promoted opposition to a specific party? Has the opposing parties ever really complained about it that much? Did the media waste our time talking about it? For instance, what about the film Fargo? Did the local Fargonions raise hell about the Coen brother’s conception of their community? The film clearly degrades the intelligence and culture of the state of North Dakota. Yeah, the film was chalked full of black humor and we're just supposed to laugh and go on with it, but viewers left the theater with a whole new outlook on people from North Dakota. We still crack jokes about the way people talk up there.

I don't know, maybe I'm alone here in outer space. Let me know what you really think. Post a comment.

Re: Anti-Semitism?

You are right on the money with your comments...

How about this:

John Travolta is a diehard scientologist who decided to make a movie called Battlefield Earth (It made Gigli look like the Sting!) basically Battlefield Earth was a book written by L. Ron Hubbard the same dumpy turdcicle who brought us dianetics...no one said that travolta was guilty of pushing his agenda or views but, Mel Gibson is over the line...hmmm

You are right, The Passion of the Christ is not anti-semitic. Although, after watching Billy Madison, I did go on a Penquin spree-killing-binge...

PS Fargonions drink their own pee

Re: Anti-Semitism?

I agree with you. The media is talking so much about this film because they have nothing going on in the world that people are really intrested in seeing. They pick one thing and try to analize the crap out of it. Same as they did with the shark attacks and child abduction the past few summers. Both of them were having fewer instances than years before.

Re: Anti-Semitism?

I don't think the media's trying to hype it up for the sake of sales. I think the media, like always, is trying force Political Correctness down everyone's throats. Anti-Semitic, African American, Civil Union, Pro-Choice

garbage garbage garbage...socialistic garbage

Gibson himself said he doesn't believe that his religion (which he claims to be Christianity, but is not) is the only way, but just the easiest way...yet the media is still afraid of this movie because it points to the Christianity.

Re: Anti-Semitism?

I completely agree that the controversy is simply an oversion to create hype and box office sales. After living in Los Angeles for a year, I realize how money-motivated the entertainment industry can be and that hype is created for all sorts of reasons example: Paris Hilton's "coming out tape" to simply promote "The Simple Life" , and I am sure her publicicst did not stop to think about how the family of Paris Hilton would be effected. To use anti-semitism as a way to induce controversy and promote the heck out of a movie only to increase box-office sales is somewhat tiresom. I think that the production studios do not realize that there are some people in this world that get the entire sceme. Nevertheless, I am a huge fan of Mel Gibson's previous projects and regardless of the nievety of his publicist, the media and others her perpetuate the hype I think it will be interesting to see one of Mel's creations from behind the camera as a producer/director rather than an actor.

Re: Anti-Semitism?

Anti-Semitism has been around for ages. It was when I was a little girl. as well as many other objectable things in this world. I believe this is taught in the home by parents, some not relizing they are doing so. The little ones (children) don't know the difference of a Jew or a Palastineian. Christian, Catholic, Holiness, Unitaian, Methodist, Baptist, Church of Christ ane even Mormons. and many more. They )the children) want to play and have fun. If we all thought like children with a pure and loving heart we would certainly have a better or maybe best world to live in. GGH. I can't wait to see the Movie of our Lord and Savior.
